414 verses, King James
58 verses, eight translations
148 incidents, every one researched
Every line of it
Here are all 472 verses on one ruled sheet, one to a line, with the place, the kind of blow, the season and the hour entered beside every verse that belongs to one of the 148 incidents. A field is in ink where scripture states the thing, in pencil where I had to establish it and an italic dash where the record is silent. I used the dash because a blank cell would look like something I forgot to fill in.
Scripture names a place for 122 of the 148 incidents, lets a season be worked out for 8 and gives the hour for 10: Abram rides down Chedorlaomer's camp by night, Ish-bosheth's killers walk in at the heat of the day and Jerusalem wakes to find Sennacherib's army already dead. Chroniclers who counted spoil to the last sheep never thought the time worth writing, so the right-hand columns hold more dashes than entries and sorting by hour floats the whole handful of exceptions to the top.
Only 203 of the verses narrate a blow that actually lands. The rest threaten it, command it, look back on it, legislate it or use it as a figure of speech, and the mode column records which, so you can filter the sheet by any of them. Click or tap any verse to open it in full with everything I found out about it underneath.
